Job Title: Work Placement Co-ordinator

Salary: £15,625 per annum, pro rata


Closing Date: 10.00am on Tuesday 28 June 2016


Position: This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week, term-time only (0.832 FTE). You will however, on occasions, be required to work outside these hours to meet the requirements of the college.


The Sixth Form College is located in Hulme, a mile south of the centre of Manchester and very close to Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University, with excellent transport links. It is a part of an international network of Catholic schools and colleges established by the Loreto Sisters.


Job Role:


To develop and build upon links with various institutions in order to arrange student placements.


To develop efficient and effective systems to ensure that necessary checks have been carried out prior to placement and to monitor student progress once the placement is underway.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


* To act as Countersignatory for DBS Application forms for students, ensuring they are accurate prior to sending to the Disclosure and Barring Service and are supported by relevant ID documentation.
* To contact relevant institutions and arrange student placements.
* To complete suitability surveys and risk assessment for work placements.
* To arrange for necessary checks to be undertaken prior to student placements.
* To visit students and monitor their progress during the placement and to initiate immediate remedial action as required.
* To work closely with students so that they are supported in terms of their welfare whilst on placement.
* To write reports on students' progress.
* To assist with establishing systems and records to ensure the efficient and effective placement of students.
* To monitor placements to ensure students have completed the required number of hours.
* To form professional relationships with key contacts/institutions and act as the link between the college, placement and student.
* To work with the Head of Department to report progress.
* To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning students.
* To assist with exam invigilation as required.
* To assist with general college events as required.
* To assist with events in partner high schools as required.
* To be aware of equality and to demonstrate these principles in all aspects of work.
* To understand the college's Safeguarding and Health & Safety policy and to work within its guidelines.


Person Specification:


* Experience of working in a busy office in an administrative capacity
* Proficiency in working with standard office applications such as MS Word, Excel and Outlook
* Excellent organisational and administrative skills
* Excellent attention to detail
* The ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding college roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
* The ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
* Ability to empathise with 16-19 year olds within a college situation
* Ability to prioritise a demanding and changeable workload
* Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels, internally and externally
* Ability to adapt quickly to new environments/technologies
* Ability to work to deadlines in a calm, organised and efficient manner
* Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* Full driving licence and own transport
* Enhanced DBS Clearance * (to follow an initial offer of employment)
